MANY TRIBUTES AS TOWN CLERK CALLS IT A DAY
Fermoy town clerk Ray Owens has announced his retirement from the position.
Speaking to Fermoy Town Council at their monthly meeting, Mr Owens said, “The mayor asked me to tell you that this is my last meeting as town clerk. I would like to wish you all the best as you have a tough job ahead. If you all co-operate, then, it can be done. Local government is not flavour of the month and those who participate are not seen in a good light. Good luck and thanks for the co-operation.”
Cllr Tadhg O’Donovan went on to wish Mr Owens well in his retirement and pointed out that the position of town clerk is a thankless job.
Cllr Noel McCarthy seconded that saying, “Best wishes to the town clerk. In my first year as mayor he was professional at all times and I do agree, it is a thankless role.”
