MAYOR THREATENS TO QUIT AFTER CONTENTIOUS BUDGET MEETING
Fermoy mayor, Michael Hanley says he is currently ‘considering his position’ following the contentious town council budget meeting on Tuesday evening. He told The Avondhu on Wednesday that he was ‘bitterly disappointed at the behaviour of some members’ during heated exchanges about expenditure for the year ahead, so much so that he may quit.
The budget for 2013 was passed by seven members to two on Tuesday night. The naysayers were Fine Gael councillor Pa O’Driscoll and Sinn Fein’s Seamus Coleman. A major sticking point for both was the fact that no provision was being made for payment of the new property tax, if it’s found that the charge must be paid in respect of local authority houses.
