MOTORWAY WILL OPEN IN MAY
The National Roads Authority (NRA) this week confirmed that the Fermoy/Mitchelstown section of the M8 would be ready for operation by May 25, writes Brian Moore.
Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey TD will officially open the new roadway, originally scheduled for 2010, at 11am on Monday, May 25.
Welcoming the announcement Cllr Frank O’Flynn (FF) said he wished to compliment all involved in the early delivery of the motorway.
“The opening of this section means that the part of the Dublin Cork route has been being upgraded from the Jack Lynch Tunnel to Durrow, County Laois, making the catchment area more attractive for investors.”
He went on to say that the 22km Fermoy-Mitchelstown stretch from the Moorepark interchange to the Kilbehenny interchange would take passing vehicles and heavy lorries out of the towns of both Mitchelstown and Fermoy.
“The new road will be of great benefit to the area, easing traffic congestion, and giving the towns back to the people.”
