NO OFFICIAL COMPLAINT OVER HANLEY ATTACK LETTER
Gardai in Fermoy say that they have not received any official complaint with regards to the anonymous letters circulated in the town that attacked Independent town councillor Michael Hanley days before last week’s local elections, writes Joe Leogue.
The unsigned missive questioned the record of the Fermoy Enterprise Board, which was founded by Cllr Hanley, and claimed that the Fermoy businessman was opposed to a number of developments in the town, including the Fermoy bypass, the flood relief plan, the Faber Castell business site and a number of hotel proposals.
The letter also suggests that Cllr Hanley originally promoted a pact of five within Fermoy, and compared the independent councillor to Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.
Speaking to The Avondhu Cllr Hanley said that he has sent a copy of the letter to his solicitor and that he did not wish to comment on the matter further.
No individual or group have taken responsibility for the letter, which was distributed to homes throughout Fermoy on the night of Wednesday, June 3 of last week.
