POLICE PEDAL POWER TO HELP RESCUE EFFORT
Like so many other groups around the country members of An Garda Siochana have mobilised to assist hundreds of thousands displaced Haitians, writes John Ahern.
As the French speaking country attempts to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a massive earthquake financial and practical assistance is starting to arrive in ever increasing quantities.
Gardai from the county’s Northern Division are to the forefront of next Saturday’s (January 30) fundraising cycle in aid of Haiti.
The event was launched on Tuesday morning outside Fermoy garda station and participants were upbeat about completing a demanding route that will take them from Charleville to the seaside town of Youghal.
Giving his blessing to the initiative, Supt. Tom Myers said he wished the cyclists well and urged the public to support them.
Keep fit enthusiast, Chief Superintendent Kieran McGann will lead the riders out of Charleville on Saturday morning at 9am and all going well they will be greeted by Supt Flor Horan in Youghal sometime on Saturday evening.
