SISTERS DOING IT TOGETHER
Sisters Katherine and Rosemarie Murphy, of Fermoy, tied the knot in a beautiful double wedding ceremony at St. Patrick’s Church last week. The two lucky grooms, PJ Delaney and John Daly, also Fermoy natives, were anxious in anticipation of meeting their new brides and secretly, hoping that they wouldn’t be kept waiting for too long.
It is not every day that Fermoy sees two sisters getting married together, so the occasion attracted a big attendance of interested onlookers. Ladies’ fashions were cutting edge as family parties, neighbours and friends caught up with the latest gossip of the day.
The brides looked beautiful as they stepped out of the hired limousine with their parents, John and Ellen Murphy, although the hairdos had to stand the test of a strong breeze that just started to pick up.
Cameras by the dozen captured pictures of the wedding party, and then, everyone moved inside the church for the religious service after which they partied all night.
Mrs Murphy, the brides’ mother, said that her daughters initially wanted to get married within a week of each other. However, mammy always knows best and she proposed that they got married at the same time, as “it made more sense.”
She burst into laughter when she explained that the first time the girls made contact with the priest, he thought they wanted to get married to each other, but they set him straight making it clear that they had two handsome lads in mind!
With the wedding fuss and hassle over, the entire family plans to spend a lovely, sunny holiday in Spain at the end of August.
Cllr. William Hughes, a personal friend of the family, congratulated the brides and their family on the joyous occasion and wished them the best in their future lives together.
