THOUSANDS ATTEND OPENING OF NEW €17M MART
Thousands of people attended the opening of the new Cork Marts facility at Corrin, Fermoy on Tuesday last. Built on a greenfield 37 acre site and costing €17 million the new facility replaces marts in Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Midleton.
Sean O’Sullivan CEO of Cork Co-Operative Marts told The Avondhu that he was delighted with the first day of trading adding that he was especially gratified by the public’s positive reaction.
The farming public travelled in great numbers to Corrin, the bulk of them to tour and inspect the sprawling complex. The bidding action took place in the mart’s 3 rings, named after rivers associated with Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Midleton - the Blackwater, Funcheon and Owenacurra.
The mart’s conference centre is named after Cork Marts first chairman, Switzer Kingston.
