Three injured in M8 motorway crash near Fermoy
Three people were injured after a crash on the M8 Cork-Dublin motorway near Moorepark on Friday, February 21st which left the motorway closed until the following day. The accident occurred between Mitchelstown and Fermoy, near Junction 14, Northbound on the M8.
Two units from both Fermoy and Mitchelstown Fire Brigades responded to the call around noon, after the collision between a lorry and a parked jeep.
It is believed the jeep broke down and was parked on the hard shoulder with three occupants, a man from Cork city, his wife and teenage son. They had to be cut free from the jeep. The army helicopter airlifted the driver to CUH, while his passengers were taken to hospital by ambulance. The driver of the lorry escaped injury.
The jeep driver and his passengers were subsequently found to have suffered only minor injuries and they were released from hospital.
The motorway was closed to allow debris to be cleared from the road. Gardai are carrying out PSV examinations on both vehicles.
