Time again to make Fermoy 'A Cleaner Town'
The push is on! The 'Fermoy - A Cleaner Town' campaign is underway once again and the organisers and sponsors want people to pull out all the stops this year, in improving the appearance of the town, to coincide with the finish of the flood relief works. It's also hoped that, by having Fermoy looking its best by early summer, improvements can be made in the Tidy Towns rankings and IBAL litter league.
The McCarthy Insurance Group rowed in behind Fermoy Tidy Towns last year to provde sponsorship for the inaugural initiative. So encouraged were they, and the Tidy Towns, by the great strides that were made, that they decided it was well worth repeating this year and that it was capable, with an extra push, of being improved upon.
They are calling on residents' associations, schools, businesses, sporting clubs, local communities, groups and individuals, to do their bit in combating litter and improving the aesthetics of all areas of the town by planting, painting and cleaning. Like last year, prizes will be awarded in various categories including best shopfront, commercial premises, schools, sports club complexes and estates in different parts of the town.
LAUNCH NIGHT
This year's competition was launched in The Grand Hotel on Monday evening, March 3rd. Pat Mahon from Fermoy Men's Shed was there to show off the decorative window box planters they make. A fundraising quiz was held after the launch to fund window boxes for the Tidy Towns.
