Galway native award winning film producer and acting coach, Emma Owen, is heading up an on-camera acting course this October.
Previous to producing, Emma established herself as a successful actress in London and Los Angeles. She worked under Sam Mendes for 2 years at The Donmar Warehouse Theatre. She has also worked alongside Phillip Seymour Hoffman & John Ortiz and their theatre company LAByrinth Theatre. She has produced her own work and award winning films for others such as ‘Skunky Dog’ directed by Paddy Slattery, ‘Fishbowl City’ starring IFTA nominated actor Martin McCann and was production manager on the 3D feature animation film and highest grossing film in 2015 at the Irish box office ‘Two by Two, Oops the Ark is Gone’ produced by Galway company Moetion Films.
Emma returned to Galway in 2011 bringing her experience and skillset with her. “When I first got back, I spent most of my time chasing auditions – unsuccessfully. After a while you get tired of all the rejection and start to think what else you could be doing”. That’s when the idea came to set up an acting school alongside a production company that specifically taught on-camera acting. There are many schools out there that teach acting, but not a lot that give the student the experience rather than the ‘thinking’ of acting. There are also lots of film service companies that don’t understand the dynamics of presenting and how to make anyone look good on-camera” Babyjane Productions are the only company in Galway providing on-camera training and video marketing services.
Babyjane Productions work with brands to provide companies with innovative video marketing solutions that increase sales through web and mobile devices for their website, social media, advertisements, promotional videos, events, interviews, training, pitching and customer testimonials.
The company's goal is to create a hub in Galway where people can come together, share ideas, learn from each other, create a support network and help each other get to the next level. The company are currently on the lookout for new premises that they can convert into 6 studio spaces, a cafe and theatre space where the crafts of acting, directing, writing, editing and producing can be taught– creating the first of its kind in the West of Ireland.
