Welcome to Gort
Gort ( Gort Inse Guaire or An Gort An Gort ) is a small town in south County Galway, just north of the Clare border on the main Limerick-Galway road.
Gort's history dates back to the sixth century as a base for the King of Connacht. There are a number of historic sites around Gort, including Kilmacduagh Monastery and a Round Tower.
A large percentage of the local population are now non-Irish, with a large Brazilian community now living in Gort and working in local meat processing plants.
