The Rapparees / Starlights GAA Club caters for boys and girls from under 8 years of age up to adult in camogie, hurling, football and ladies football. New members are always welcome.

Rapparees/Starlights Club notes 4th May 2015

A busy, if wet May Bank Holiday weekend with the commencement of the 1st Round of the Senior Hurling Championship the weather held fairly well for our Senior Hurling clash against St. Martins at 2pm Sunday at Monamolin and our Junior hurlers immediately afterwards at 3.30pm at the same venue taking on Naomh Eanna. Our Senior hurling game was a closer encounter than the final score of 3.11 to 1.9 would indicate with Rapparees only 2 points behind with 10 minutes to go however it was all St. Martins in the closing stages who knocked another one into the net and a couple going over the bar. Our work rate was good if the finish floundered a little - so its dust ourselves off and head back into the fray next weekend against Glynn/Barntown who drew with Cloughbawn this weekend. Our Junior hurlers fared out a lot better scoring 1.17 to Naomh Eanna`s 1.9 and proving themselves to be the better side throughout the encounter so its onwards and upwards - keep up the good work lads and the results will follow.

At present we are drafting and putting the finishing touches to our 5 Year Plan and to that end if you have any suggestions or indeed are willing to help to improve communications in the club in any way we want to hear from you. We are currently updating and improving our Website which has been rather static of late, we are endeavoring to keep our Facebook page interesting and interactive and we are working on Twitter and hoping to use it for all future Championship matches.

But good communication and Social Media are only as good as the feed so if you have a fixture coming up or if you have a result of a game please text them to me so that they can go out to all. For the system to work to maximum effect we need everyone to buy into it particularly those attending our underage games and Camogie and Ladies Football – we need information to come into us from all sections of the club.

Also in keeping with our 5 Year Plan – beidh cupla focal sa notai gach seachtain as sin amach! And we are also seeking to re-introduce Scor to Bellefield so if you are interested or know of anyone interested in getting involved please get in touch.

A reminder to all that on Friday 8th May the Wexford Supporters Club are running their annual Golf Classic at Courtown Golf Club and need your support and on Saturday May 9th at 4am Shamrocks and Rapparees/Starlights are coming together for our 3rd annual Pieta House Darkness Into Light Walk and we are hoping for our biggest ever turnout this year with our sincere thanks to all who are supporting and to all our Sponsors, Stewards, Marine Watch Wexford, Slaney Equine, Enniscorthy Gardai and Councillor James Browne for the use of his Offices at Slaney Place for registration.
