Kilkenny (Cill Chainnigh
"Cill Chainnigh" - the church of Canice - was an important town, even from pre-Christian times. Located at a prominent bend in the River Nore, where an outcrop of rock presents a natural vantage point, the present Norman castle is located.
Kilkenny plays host to the annual Smithwicks Cats Laughs Comedy festival which makes Kilkenny the "Comedy Capital of the World". The city streets thrive with life at night all year round night and the pubs enjoy an atmosphere for which everyone flocks to enjoy the craic.
