160 JOBS PROMISED AT NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTRE
As construction workers this week commenced preparation of the site for the new Aldi distribution centre in Mitchelstown, the company confirmed that the facility will provide 160 jobs when completed, writes Brian Moore. The site on the Ballylanders road was a hive of activity as workers cleared the area and moved in equipment.
One worker at the site confirmed to The Avondhu, “We are almost ready now for the work to begin next week, right now we are getting the services in place for the main construction team.”
The distribution centre will be the second largest Aldi facility in Ireland, and it is expected that up to 250 will be employed in the construction phase of the project with Aldi confirming that 160 people will be employed at the distribution centre when it is up and running.
The chairman of the Mitchelstown Business Association, Eamon O’Brien, said: “ This is great news for the town and for the North Cork region and on behalf of the MBA I would like to welcome all involved to Mitchelstown”.
When completed the €100 million distribution centre will supply Aldi stores in Cork, Tipperary, Waterford, Limerick and Kerry.
