Fr O'Donoghue returns to say Mass in Mitchelstown
The Diocese of Cloyne's newest priest, Fr Patrick O'Donoghue, returned to Mitchelstown last Thursday, to say Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
The Castlemartyr native and a pharmacy graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, spent a very enjoyable 12 months in Mitchelstown while preparing for the priesthood and he was thrilled to be back among friends and acquaintances.
"This evening was very special for me, I was delighted to be able to come back and say Mass in a town where everyone was very kind to me," he said.
Concelebrating with Fr O'Donoghue were: Canon Michael Fitzgerald, Canon Tim O'Leary and Fr Patrick Cahill. Fr O'Donoghue thanked sacristan, Pat McEvoy and organist, Anna Maria Russell, for their much appreciated input. 50/60 people attended and as referred to by Fr O'Donoghue all received a special blessing following Mass. Having been ordained on November 24, 2013, Fr O'Donoghue was assigned to Cobh where he is CC.
Mitchelstown parishioners hope it's not too long before they see this popular young curate again. Presently, the Diocese of Cloyne has 3 men training for the priesthood.
