WOMAN AND DAUGHTER RESCUED FROM STAG PARK BLAZE
A mother and her young daughter had a miraculous escape in Stag Park, Mitchelstown after a fire broke out in the hallway of their home in the early hours of Monday morning last, writes Brian Moore.
Units of the Mitchelstown Fire Brigade, along with local members of the gardai, rushed to the scene and rescued the trapped mother and daughter from the third floor of their home in Stag Park at 2.45am on Monday morning.
“The occupants of the house were very lucky. The blaze took hold in the hallway and quickly filled the house with smoke. When we arrived the woman and her child were trapped on the third floor and had to be rescued,” a spokesman for Mitchelstown Fire Brigade told The Avondhu.
Ambulance crews treated the victims at the scene, as they did not require any hospitalisation.
“I would like to thank the fire brigade, the ambulance crew and the gardai for all their help. I would also like to thank my neighbours for their support,” the rescued mother, who does not want to be identified, told The Avondhu.
Meanwhile, Gardai are investigating the cause of the blaze, which has yet to be determined.
Any witnesses to this incident or anyone with information are requested to contact Mitchelstown gardai on 025-84833.
