11 – 22 August 2012, Cornmarket Centre, Cornmarket Street, Cork
The eagerly awaited second Locus furniture exhibition will open in Cork on August 9th. The event again promises to showcase the highest standard of hand crafted furniture from local makers and workshops.
The Locus designers are keenly aware that their produce offer value and that there is pressure on budgets. Locus Designer/Makers argue that they offer an opportunity for buyers to access the designer directly, that the customer has more invested in a commission and that the high quality of production ensures that the pieces enjoy a long life - that they become the heirlooms of tomorrow.
Most of the exhibitors make furniture to order, customising their designs to the clients needs while also retaining their own aesthetic. Many will be debuting new work at this year's show making this a unique chance to see the diverse work of so many designer/makers in one place. Visitors will see and appreciate the contemporary and traditional woodwork and design that Cork has in abundance.
About Locus
The Locus group comprises individual furniture makers and workshops in and around Cork City. The group's aim is to show the variety and quality of work being designed and made by local craft workers. The Locus exhibition highlights and supports local enterprise and craft. After the success of its first exhibition in 2011, the group has grown and this year's show presents work from 14 different makers.
