Our History
Portarlington Youth Club is part of Youth Work Ireland Laois which is a member of Youth Work Ireland. Youth Work Ireland is the largest youth work organisation in Ireland. It was founded in 1962 and caters for the changing needs of young people by developing and adapting a wide variety of relevant and accessible services.
Portarlington Youth Club was founded in October 2005 and opened its doors in March 2006. It is an all inclusive club catering for young adults between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age living in Portarlington and the surrounding areas. All volunteers are approved, trained and garda cleared by Youth Work Ireland - Laois.
Our Mission
We are committed to supporting young people in their personal and social development and preparing them for decisions that affect their lives. We help them develop appropriate values and beliefs and promote a sense of self worth and well being. Portarlington Youth club is here to ensure equality of opportunity and to encourage, challenge, support, stimulate and facilitate young people.
Club Activities
Our members have a lot of input into the running of the club including the running of the club shop. The club has organised programmes such as First Aid, Self Defense, Pottery, Beauty Tips, Hair dressing, Guitar Lessons, Arts and Crafts, Sports nights, Darts Tournaments, DVD nights. The club tries to ensure the activities suit the interests of the group and that members feel that the club is theirs.
