The public are invited to attend two events this week that are programmed as part of the 'Music in Performance' lecture series for the MA in Music at St Patrick's College, Drumcondra.
On Thursday, 27 March, 6 - 7.30 pm, guest lecturer Dr Aylish Kerrigan will deliver a presentation entitled 'From Arnold Schoenberg to Kurt Weill: Does Research Inform Performance?'
A specialist in German Lieder and Contemporary Vocal Music, Dr Kerrigan has been performing, giving Master Classes and lecturing in the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in China since 1994. She was made a Chu Tian’ Scholar in May 2011 which is the highest academic award given to foreign professors by the Chinese government.
The topics explored in Dr Kerrigan's presentation will be complemented by a lecture-recital on Friday, 28 March, between 5 - 6pm, featuring Dr Kerrigan (mezzo soprano) and Dearbhla Collins, one of Ireland's finest and most versatile pianists. The programme will include songs by Charles Ives and Kurt Weill, selections from A Girl (Seoirse Bodley) and from Das Buch der hängenden Gärten, Op 15 (Arnold Schoenberg), along with arrangements of Irish melodies by Seoirse Bodley and Hamilton Harty.
Both events take place in Room B118, Music Department, St Patrick's College, Drumcondra.
