€10M MEDICAL CENTRE TO OPEN IN MITCHELSTOWN
A new €10 million medical centre for Mitchelstown will be up and running before the end of November.
Local doctor Tom O’Callaghan is one of six G.P.s involved in the development of the 30,000 sq ft complex to be located in the old Dairygold HQ on the Fermoy road. The Medi-centre will include diabetes and asthma clinics, a dental surgery, cardiac clinics and a physiotherapy service.
“The idea is to bring these vital services together under one roof. The primary aim behind the development of the centre was to create a ‘ one-stop shop’ for the people of the region,” said Dr O’Callaghan.
The centre will also have Munster’s first privately operated ‘in-house diagnostic suite’ allowing visiting consultants to carry out x-rays, bone density tests and ultrasounds. The centre will also be linked by e-mail to hospitals throughout the region.
In addition to the medical and diagnostic facilities at the centre there will also be a gymnasium staffed by professional fitness instructors, a conference centre capable of holding public and private meetings of up to 50 people, 100 car parking spaces and a cafe. The Health Service Executive (HSE) will also have units at the centre.
“Once the centre is opened all of the essential patient day care services will be available under one roof”, said Dr O Callaghan.
