18 ARRESTED FOR DRINK DRIVING
There was a rise in local drink driving arrests over the Easter period this year. 18 people were arrested in the North Cork region which covers Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Mallow and Midleton between Holy Thursday, March 20 and Easter Monday, March 24.
This compares to 13 arrested over the Easter period last year, which fell in April. Inspector Tony O’Sullivan confirmed that over one thousand random breath tests were carried out in the North Cork area this Easter.
“It’s disappointing to see this upwards trend,” Inspector O’Sullivan told The Avondhu, “and while there were thankfully no accidents in the region, people are still taking risks. People should remember that if they are caught they face up to four years off the road and a €5,000 fine”.
