BALLYPOREEN GAA CLUB GETS THE NOD FOR RTE CELEBRITY BAINISTEOIR
Ballyporeen GAA Club, established over 100 years ago, has been selected as the only Munster entry in this year’s RTE Celebrity Bainisteoir series. Word filtered through over last weekend that the south Tipp club was in the reckoning to get the nod and officials met backroom staff from RTE and the production company involved on Monday.
Preliminary footage will be filmed in Ballyporeen on this Sunday, July 3 when it is expected that the celebrity manager assigned to the local club will be revealed at around 3pm. RTE will then film four training sessions before Ballyporeen plays its first match in Celebrity Bainisteoir.
Club teams from Galway, Sligo, Derry, Dublin, Laois, Kildare and Wicklow will also take part in the competition. Local club member, John O’Brien is excited about the prospect of Celebrity Bainisteoir coming to town.
“We’ll be putting our best foot forward and this is a great opportunity for Ballyporeen GAA Club to gain a national profile,” he told The Avondhu.
“It’s a challenge but very much something to look forward to at the same time,” John added.
Celebrity Bainisteoir is a GAA reality programme which is now in it’s fourth series and regularly features in the top ten of RTE programmes with over 600,000 viewers per episode.
The series will follow 8 teams from around the country and their celebrity managers. There will be 4 quarter-finals, 2 semi-finals and the grand final, which will be played in Parnell Park in Dublin.
