BOXING HERO TO BE GUEST OF HONOUR AT BIGGEST EVER MITCHELSTOWN PARADE
Local boxing hero and Irish international, Danny Keating is to be the special guest of honour at the St Patrick’s Day parade in Mitchelstown this Thursday.
“Danny has brought great honour to Mitchelstown and is now being trained by the world renowned boxing coach Nicolas Cruz from Cuba,” chairman of the Festival of The Galtees, Michael White told The Avondhu this week.
“It looks as if the parade will be even bigger than last year, which was our best ever, based on the number of telephone calls that I’ve been getting,” Michael White continued.
“The weather should be ok by the time the parade gets going so we’re looking forward to a great day.”
KICKING OFF AT 1
The parade will begin at 1pm sharp on George’s Street and make its way to Church Street, down the main street, up Baldwin Street to Kingston College and finish in the New Square.
Michael White went on to say that only walking groups would be allowed into New Square at the end of the parade.
“No floats will be allowed on to the square at the end of the parade. However, all the walking groups will finish here. As always the preparation for the Mitchelstown St Patrick’s Day parade has been a huge community effort and we would like to thank the various organisations that have worked so hard getting ready for the big day and for all their support,” Mr White added.
BEST WINDOW COMPETITION
The Mitchelstown Business Association is also sponsoring a competition for the town’s shop windows. There are three categories - best-dressed window, best Irish theme and most traditional window. The overall prize for the competition is sponsored by The Avondhu newspaper.
Judging for the best pub interior will take place on this Wednesday, March 16, with the winners being announced later that evening.
