COMMUNITY COUNCIL ADOPTS LIMITED COMPANY STATUS
Armed with a new constitution and renamed the Mitchelstown Community Council Ltd, the local community council in the town is currently distributing ballot papers for the election of members.
The elections will see representatives from each of the community electoral areas sitting on the community council for the next three years. Seamus Kilmartin, president of Mitchelstown Community Council this week told The Avondhu, “The ballot papers are now being sent out and every person aged 18 and over who is on the electoral roll and who is resident in your area is eligible to vote. You will be asked to nominate one two or three people from your community to represent your area and the results will be announced in The Avondhu early in December.”
The closing date for receipt of the ballot papers is Friday, November 27 and they should be returned to Liam O’Doherty, secretary of Mitchelstown Community Council Ltd., or they can be dropped in to Proinsias Condon at his drapery shop in lower Cork Street.
“Mitchelstown Community Council Ltd is a voluntary body which is elected to represent the interest of the town and parish. We would call on everybody to take part in the election which will ensure that Mitchelstown will have strong voice for the future,” Mr Kilmartin concluded.
