COUNCIL GETS TOUGH ON ILLEGAL HALTING SITES
The days of long, drawn out procedures regarding illegal encampments seem to be at an end judging by Cork County Council’s success in removing Travellers from a site on the Mitchelstown relief road.
All the public representatives in attendance at last Tuesday’s local authority meeting in Mallow were generous in their praise of council officials and members of the gardai whose energy and efficiency ensured the encampment didn’t become permanent.
Having removed the main party of Travellers, the meeting was told that a small group of Travellers had moved in to a location close to the icehouse – a local landmark.
The meeting was told that legal proceedings were now underway against these individuals.
