FEARS THAT RAW SEWAGE WILL CONTAMINATE GRADOG RIVER
The news that the raw sewage problem on the Clonmel Road in Mitchelstown is to be alleviated by using a storm overflow drain is causing concern to local fishermen. They claim that this could mean that the sewage will now flow directly into the Gradog river and thereby undo all of the hard work that was undertaken to get the river up to a European standard.
David Lee of Mitchelstown and Kildorrery Trout Anglers, said that this is a step backwards. He added that the Gradog has been under ‘ferocious pressure’ recently to get up to European standards and now this could be jeopardising the clean up efforts.
