IAN AIMS FOR OFFICE KING SUCCESS IN FERMOY
Warren Buffett, industrialist, investor, and philanthropist once said, “A recession is the best time to do business,” and, with this in mind, Ian Malcolm of The Mousepad in Mitchelstown has decided to expand his business by opening an outlet in Fermoy. Ian last week announced that he has taken the opportunity to expand his computer sales, service and accessory computer business to Patrick Street in Fermoy town.
“The recession has affected my business like many other small enterprises struggling to stay open. However, others have found opportunities to expand, and it has also given me the opportunity to reflect on where growth may be developed,” Mr Malcolm told The Avondhu.
REACHING OUT
“Any small business considering expansion during the recession should know its customer base and be confident in its product. A lot of my customers come from Fermoy, Ballyhooly, Rathcormac and surrounding areas, so it gave good reason to open in the town on the Blackwater.
"It means that our customer base is reaching out into new markets through the addition of new shops offering the same professional and prompt services on computers, computer repairs, printer ink coupled with its office supplies and secretarial services which have proven successful in The Mousepad in Mitchelstown.”
SOME SLEEPLESS NIGHTS
While admitting there have been some sleepless nights, Ian knew that this represented a rare opportunity in his expansion and business plans.
“It’s a good time to expand simply because rent is more affordable and, if you can tie up a lower rent for a couple of years, it’s definitely to your advantage,” he said.
Ian Malcolm opened Office King at 7 Patrick Street, (beside Bermingham’s) last Friday and since opening business has been brisk. While still offering the same competitive rates as he does in The Mousepad, the new shop is selling a large range of pocket money toys, all at affordable prices and many under €5, which have, so far, proven very popular.
While he was keen to stress that The Mousepad was staying in Mitchelstown, Ian is looking forward to welcoming many of their existing customers (and some new ones as well, of course) to Office King at 7 Patrick Street, Fermoy.
