International Credit Union Day in Mitchelstown
Just as the doom and gloom of Budget 2014 was starting to sink in with people, there was a very upbeat and positive day in Mitchelstown Credit Union, as they celebrated International Credit Union Day in the branch on Thursday last.
Cathy Tobin, who organised the day, said that the relaxed atmosphere and entertainment gave people the chance to come in and relax and chat to the staff members about the services they offer.
She added that when people come into the branch, it is usually to get something done and they are rushing in and out, but Thursday allowed them to soak up the relaxing atmosphere and learn more about what Mitchelstown Credit Union has to offer.
On the day, there was a raffle, sweets and treats, tea and coffee and music from different groups in the town, including Kilshanna Music, Art and Drama Studio, Presentation Secondary School and Mitchelstown School of Music and Arts.
"The theme of the day was through the generations and this was echoed with all the young people that turned up with their fantastic talents and gave us such an enjoyable day," Cathy said, adding that many of the members really enjoyed sitting down and listening to the musical entertainment throughout the day.
The Credit Union would like to thank the schools and clubs that took time out of their days to be part of International Credit Union Day, Mitchelstown Golf Club, Mick Barrett at B2A and Dave Connors of Park United who all donated prizes for the raffle on the day.
They also thanked Darren at Kilworth Army camp for providing the urns for tea and coffee, Timmy Crowley of the Town Hall for teapots, Padraig Russell and Peter for helping to put things together at the last minute and Flowers by Una for providing the balloons.
"It just shows what can be done when a community comes together," Cathy said.
She said that the day gave them the chance to give something back to their members and the people in the community.
Over the coming weeks, Mitchelstown Credit Union will be advertising their Christmas loan promotions, as well as their services for both new and existing members.
