Kilbehenny NS girl to play in Limerick Gaelic Grounds
This Saturday will bring with it an exciting day for Kilbehenny NS student Chloe Cleary, as she will be joining other primary school students from across Limerick to play a game at half-time during the Limerick V Tipperary match at the Limerick Gaelic Grounds.
This is not a first for Kilbehenny NS, as Sean Clancy had the honour of being the school's first boy to get to do something like this and Chloe is now their first girl.
Principal Mary Verling told The Avondhu that Chloe's selection for this game follows on from Kilbehenny NS becoming the South Limerick champions in the Cumann na mBunscoil and Chloe is the captain of that team, which tasted victory thanks to the training of Johnny O'Mahony.
She said that Chloe is very good in both sports and academic subjects and always gives 100%, so she is delighted that she is getting the opportunity to play football in such a big stadium.
"As a school, we are very proud of our strong tradition in GAA and sports. The local GAA club must be commended for all they do in terms of coaching when the students join the club," the principal said.
Chloe's father always played football with Galtee Gaels and she said fondly that she has been on the side of a football field since she was a tiny baby.
"My dad always told me I took my first steps as a baby in Kilbehenny GAA field," she said.
Chloe thanked her father and Joan Quane for all of the help they have given her with training and coaching and also Mrs Verling and the national school, for she wouldn't have had this opportunity without them.
"My dad often brought me to see Limerick playing, so this is a dream come true for me to play at half-time during a Limerick match," Chloe told The Avondhu.
The Limerick V Tipperary senior match is at 7pm in the Limerick Gaelic Grounds and the primary school game will take place at 7.35pm during half-time.
