LOCAL FIANNA FAIL RIFT AS CLLR SNUBBED?
A rumoured rift in the local Fianna Fail support base has once again come to light after it was revealed that party county councillor, Frank O’Flynn was not invited to a recent cumann meeting in Mitchelstown, writes Joe Leogue.
There is long held speculation that the Glanworth councillor is unpopular with some party activists in the area due to his support for Deputy Michael Ahern, instead of local TD and rival Ned O’Keeffe.
When contacted by The Avondhu on the speculation Cllr O’Flynn confirmed that he is not invited to Mitchelstown Fianna Fail Cumann meetings, but did not wish to comment further on the matter.
The slight is the latest in a long running rivalry between supporters of Deputy O’Keeffe and Cllr O’Flynn, the latter sparking controversy by putting an advertisement in The Avondhu ahead of the last general election in which he endorsed Deputy Ahern ahead of the local TD.
Last August a text message sent out by Glanworth GAA stirred further unrest between the two who argued over who deserved credit for securing the club a substantial National Lottery grant.
