MITCHELSTOWN BRINGS HOME THE BACON FOR AUGUST FOOD FESTIVAL
Celebrating the good food that is produced locally the Mitchelstown Food Festival slogan this year is ‘Bring Home the Bacon’.
Festival chairman, Sean Hyland, congratulated all the community groups involved in putting the spotlight on Mitchelstown and the local food producers at the launch of the festival at Reidy’s SuperValu on Tuesday night last.
“Mitchelstown is known for producing good food, over the years we have seen many food industries close locally but now Mitchelstown is back as an area that supports Irish food and Irish jobs,” he said.
The main event of the festival, which takes place Sunday, August 30, will be located at the Mitchelstown Business Park where the people of the region will be able to taste some of the best food locally produced.
“There will be a series of talks and demonstrations on Friday (28) afternoon on pork production and artisan foods and a family fun event in association with Mitchelstown Lions Club and the Mitchelstown Business Association (MBA) will take place with street music and a food extravaganza on the main street in the town on Saturday,” Sean Hyland explained.
Hosting the launch at Reidy’s SuperValu, Alan Reidy welcomed the invited guests and praised the community for organising the food event.
“After the success of last year’s festival it is good to see that we are making the effort to support local producers which in turn is supporting local jobs and our community. We here at SuperValu are delighted to be involved with the Mitchelstown Food Festival,” Alan Reidy said.
