MITCHELSTOWN FOOD FESTIVAL TO GO AHEAD
A member of the Mitchelstown Good Food Festival Committee has moved to calm local speculation over the future of the event, the details of which have yet to be announced.
Following a number of calls to The Avondhu on the festival, which took place this time last year, a member of the organising group confirmed that the event would be going ahead.
“We’ve done our best to resurrect it,” the festival committee member assured The Avondhu, “and it will go ahead. We will set a date for September.”
The event took place last year on Sunday, July 1 under a marquee at the site of the now demolished Galtee factory.
Approximately forty stands exhibited at the event on the day and showcased a wide variety of culinary curiosities and delicious delights, from chocolate fountains to the old reliable barbecues.
A number of prizes were awarded to competing stands; Hodgins Sausages’ low fat product walked away with the IFA sponsored prize for ‘best product’ while Rathcomac’s Posh Nosh outfit won the prize for ‘best stand’. Those who turned out in droves last July will hope the festival can repeat the full programme of entertainment enjoyed in 2007.
Puppet shows and face painters kept the kids busy while the adults enjoyed the displays and the sounds of the bands that provided the soundtrack for the day. Sources have hinted that a press release is imminent.
Keep an eye on The Avondhu for full details on the event as they come to light.
