MITCHELSTOWN'S SINEAD RECEIVES CORK SCHOOLS SCIENCE AWARD
Mitchelstown student Sinead O’Sullivan from Kildrum, Mitchelstown has struck gold after being honoured by Enterprise Minister Batt O’Keeffe for her outstanding academic achievement.
The minister last week presented Sinead with the prestigious Cork Schools Science Award’s Chemistry Gold Medal. The gold medal awards scheme, which has now been in operation for more than five decades, honours those who have achieved top results in specialist science subjects in their Leaving Certificates.
Sinead, a former pupil at the Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown, won the medal after achieving the best overall chemistry mark of any pupil in Cork who sat their Leaving Cert in 2009. She is now studying Mathematical Sciences at University College Cork.
During the presentation ceremony, which took place at the Blackrock Castle Observatory, Minister O’Keeffe also handed out gold medals to other students who achieved top marks in subjects including applied mathematics, biology, physics and mathematics.
