Mitchelstown race night hopes to raise €10,000 for Marymount Hospice

And they're off … the Mitchelstown branch of Drive to Survive are hoping that the race night in aid of Marymount Hospice this Saturday in Jackie O'Brien's will see them raise €10,000 for the hospice.
As the finishing touches were put to the race night earlier this week, the committee members told The Avondhu that it should be a great night. The first race starts at 9pm and with bets for as little as €2, it promises to be a fun night, with food, music from DJ Pat Ronan and great raffle prizes up for grabs.
Liam O'Grady said that donations have been steadily coming in since the event was launched and a lot of people want to support the good cause, as they have seen for themselves the good work that is done by those at Marymount Hospice in Cork.
Businesses from Fermoy, Mitchelstown and further afield have generously sponsored some great raffle prizes and there will also be a €50 prize for the winner of each race and a spot prize for the person who places the first bet.
On the night, there will be three large screens displaying the races and no prior knowledge of racing is needed as all information is provided. Maurice Walsh will also do an auction with eight horses going to the highest bidders and there will be a fully automated tote service.
One of the committee members John Courtney, has also been doing the 6 Amigo's weight loss challenge for eight weeks and he will generously donate half of what he raises to the Mitchelstown branch of Drive to Survive for the Marymount Hospice.
All support would be greatly appreciated for what promises to be a brilliant night of entertainment for a great cause and donations can be made to Jackie O'Brien's Tavern on Lower Cork Street, Mitchelstown.
