Mitchelstown to get 'All Shook Up'
This week marks the anniversary of Elvis' death in 1977 and in a very timely announcement, the Mitchelstown Musical Society revealed that this year's show will be framed around the music of Elvis Presley.
'All Shook Up' is set in a sleepy small town in America, which gets all shook up when a guitar packing, motorbike riding hero rocks into town and everything changes overnight.
The fast moving, light hearted comedy promises to have the audience tapping their feet and singing along to such classics as 'Jailhouse Rock', 'C’mon Everybody', 'One Night With You', 'It’s Now or Never' and 'Blue Suede Shoes', among others.
Chairperson of the musical society, Maria Murphy said that they are all really excited about this musical and she said that with the music being so timeless, it will appeal to everyone 'from teenagers to grandparents'.
"Over the past two years we’ve had a couple of sold out shows from 'Beauty and The Beast' and 'The Wizard of Oz' and we fully expect that 'All Shook Up' will be just as popular with our audience," she said.
Kilworth-based Kevin McCormack will have his first involvement with Mitchelstown Musical Society this year, although he is well known for his involvement in many shows in Fermoy and elsewhere.
"We’re delighted to have Kevin on board. He took part in the process to select a show and his enthusiasm is already having an impact on the membership," Maria said, adding that new members are always welcome.
"There will be an open night for existing and new members in September, well before rehearsals commence. Stay informed through the pages of The Avondhu," Maria said.
There is also a great social aspect with being involved in the musical society and this was evidenced last Saturday with a very successful barbecue and karaoke night in Tod's Yard, where people got into the swing of the musical ahead of the event and were already practicing their Elvis moves in anticipation of their next big musical.
