PADDY FIGHTS FOR LIFE AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT
A Mitchelstown man is this week fighting for his life after being seriously assaulted in Randwick, Australia, writes Brian Moore. The family of 29 year-old Paddy Fox, who comes from Cloughleafin, were en route to Sydney from Ireland to be at his bedside as The Avondhu went to press this week.
The assault allegedly occurred at a hotel in Randwick around 8pm on Sunday night, where, according to police, Paddy fell back and struck his head on the ground. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with serious head and brain injuries, and underwent emergency surgery.
Meanwhile, police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man over the attack, but he has been released on bail to appear at a local court on April 13.
The assault comes just months after the death of Gearoid Walsh who died after an altercation with another man in October and another Cork man, David Keohane, was left in a coma for seven months after he was also assaulted.
All three incidents occurred in the Coogee area of Randwick.
