SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT IN MITCHELSTOWN
There was an air of fear and shock in Mitchelstown this week following a report that a young woman was sexually assaulted as she made her way home in the early hours of Sunday morning last.
The assault took place between 4.30am and 5am on Sunday morning as the victim walked across the green area in Ballinwillin.
“This was a very serious assault and we are appealing for anyone who can help with our investigations to contact the local gardai,” Supt Michael Comyn told The Avondhu.
The young woman was assisted by friends and members of the gardai after the incident and attended the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit.
A local resident told The Avondhu of being shocked at the attack, “Nothing like this has ever happened around here before and our thoughts and prayers go out to the young woman,” the resident, who did not wish to be identified, said.
Gardai are appealing for anyone who might know anything about this incident to contact them at Mitchelstown garda station on 025-84833.
