SHAVE OR DYE HITS MITCHELSTOWN THIS WEEKEND!
As Saturday approaches many of those associated with the annual INDIEPENDENCE Music & Arts Festival will be investing in varying styles of headwear as they prepare to shave their heads or dye their hair all in the name of raising money for the Irish Cancer Society as part of TodayFM’s 2011 ‘Shave or Dye’ campaign.
The event which as you would expect with INDIEPENDENCE, now one of Ireland’s most successful festivals and recently shortlisted as one of the best small festivals in Europe involved, will have a party atmosphere with Dublin band The Riptide Movement blasting into town fresh off the back of the release of their sophomore album offering.
DJ entertainment on the night will provided by local mix masters, Pat Ronan and Paul Seymour with mayhem more than likely to ensue.
Although a great night for all is planned and virtually assured, Michael Maher, one of the organisers and soon to be proud owner of a shock of pink hair says that it’s the money raised that’s the real key to it.
“The Irish Cancer Society don’t receive any government funding so depend on donations and events like this to help them provide the support they do to cancer patients and their families. Last year TodayFM raised €800,000 for this cause and if we can help them to top that this year while having a few pints and a bit of craic along the way then we are more than happy to be involved,” Mike says.
Along with those shaving their heads and changing their hair colour, their are also people waxing various parts of their anatomy which has led to one very interesting head to head. Dave Dineen and Shane Cahill, both members of Park United’s A team and Mitchelstown junior football team will go head to head in a ‘Wax Off’.
Not since the Karate Kid polished all of Mr Myagi’s cars has the like been seen. Odds are now being taken on the first one to quit, let’s just hope that they have some hair left at the end of it. But if they don’t, well it was all for a good cause anyway!
INDIEPENDENCE Shave or Dye in association with TodayFM takes place at Walsh’s Bar, Mitchelstown on this Saturday, February 26. The action kicks off at 9pm, MC’d by Ronan and Seymour with music from The Riptide Movement to follow.
