SHOCK AS €100,000 MISSING FROM KILFINANE GAA CLUB
The Kilfinane community has been shocked by recent revelations that approximately €100,000 has gone missing from the coffers of local Blackrock GAA Club.
A spokesperson for Limerick gardai has confirmed that they are following ‘a definite line of enquiry’ into the alleged misappropriation which has left the club €50,000 in debt. It is believed that gardai may be focussing their investigation on a former member of the club.
The figure of debt was revealed in a letter to the local community in which the club appealed for help.
"As you may be aware, Blackrock GAA Club has run into serious financial difficulties, which could not be deemed to be of its own making," the letter reads.
It has been reported that the missing money was to be used towards providing a second field, covered stand and dugouts for the club. Now it is believed that money raised from the club’s weekly lotto draw is to service a bank overdraft.
Contributions from the Limerick Development Draw goes directly to their Bord na nOg to assist in running the juvenile club. Blackrock GAA are expected to step up a major fundraising campaign to alleviate the debt in the coming weeks
