SOME OBJECTORS SIGNED TWICE!
A petition submitted to Cork County Council against proposed developments at the Cork Mart site at George’s Street, Mitchelstown may not have had as many genuine signatures as first believed.
A study of the petition, which along with letters and other submissions against the multi million euro development are available to the public from Cork County Council, reveals that many groups of names appear to have been signed by one person in each case.
Furthermore, some of the listed objectors give their address courtesy of employers and businesses in the town.
One prominent member of Mitchelstown Community Council signed twice, on the second occasion giving his name and home address in Irish. The petition, which came with a cover letter claiming that over seven hundred “residents in the immediate vicinity” of the development also has contributions from members of the public in areas such as Kildorrery and Skeheenarinky.
