SUSPECTS RELEASED AFTER MITCHELSTOWN ARREST
Four men who were last week arrested and found in possession of baseball bats, balaclavas and a handgun in Mitchelstown have been released pending the results of garda investigations and lab reports.
Uniformed gardai, who became suspicious of the car on Thursday night last, stopped the men who were aged from their late teens to late 20s. On searching the vehicle, the gardai found basketball bats, balaclavas and a handgun.
The four men were arrested and taken to Fermoy and Midelton garda stations. It is believed that they may have been travelling to Cork city when the car was stopped.
Gardai in Mitchelstown told The Avondhu, “Investigations are continuing and a file has been sent to the DPP. The handgun has been sent to Dublin for analysis.”
All four men are reported to be from Offaly.
