Successful first gig in Ballyporeen Hall
The 'sold out' sign was up pretty quickly once word spread that home town girl, Gemma Hayes was playing the first ever sit down concert in the recently refurbished hall in Ballyporeen.
The end product combines functionality and comfort and looks great into the bargain. Ballyporeen Community Council personnel who oversee the hall, have lost no time in drawing up a packed programme of events for the Autumn season and things are looking good for the next show which is a Johnny Cash tribute act on Friday 18th.
Going back to last Saturday night's concert, it's worth mentioning the excellent acoustics, the intimate nature of the venue and the excellent heating system which cooled as well as warmed the audience - there was also the very attractive admission price of just €15. A big shout also goes out to local band Monorail who were on first - it was a big night for them.
The good (bad) news is that the Bachelors in Trouble are on their way to Bally'. They're teaming up with local man Mick Dunlea for an evening of high jinks on 16th November. That's followed by a Christmas variety show on 6th December. In between, groups such as the Tora-Kan Karate Club, ICA, youth club, civil defence and indoor bowls club will all take up residency at various stages.
It's a busy start for Ballyporeen Hall and the plan is to keep that trend going for 2013 and into 2014. Further hall details are available from 087-3304779.
