TIM RECALLS 1,300-FOOT BUNGEE JUMP
Back from his once in a lifetime trip to Africa, RedFM ‘Wildlife’ winner Tim White called to The Avondhu to describe his African adventure this week. Tim and his girlfriend, Joanne McCarthy flew to Zambia with Travel4Change and experienced one of the natural wonders of the world.
“The whole trip from the start was out of this world,” Tim told The Avondhu.
“We saw sights that we thought we would never experience. From the Safari trips and the game tracking to sleeping just metres from animals as they made their way to the water hole, it was all just unbelievable really,” Tim said.
Tim, who is a bricklayer from Mitchelstown, was the overall winner of the ‘Wildlife’ challenge, which was held at Fota Wildlife Park.
“Fota is a great place but there is nothing like seeing the animals in their native habitat. We saw elephants, antelope, hippos and one of the world’s most deadly snakes. I went fishing on the famous Zambezi River and then we saw the highlight of the trip, the Victoria Falls,” Tim added.
Tim and Joanne saw the famous falls from a helicopter first but Tim had another view in mind.
“I have always wanted to do a bungee jump and I thought that this was the best place for it,” he told The Avondhu. So, on the bridge that spans the fall and is the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Tim stood above the 1,300 feet drop.
“I just closed my eyes and jumped, it was a great feeling and I would love to do it again,” Tim said.
However it was not all adventure for Tim and Joanne.
“Another part of the trip was to help build a school at a local village. We helped with the foundations but as a bricklayer I wasn’t much use, as they don’t use bricks! But we did our best. It was then that I saw just how lucky we are here in this country. The poverty was incredible to see but the people were great and very friendly,” Tim continued.
“I would like to thank Travel4Change, RedFM and of course all those who voted for me and gave me the chance to experience Africa,” Tim concluded.
