TIPP TOP ALL-IRELAND ORDER FOR MITCHELSTOWN MENSWEAR SHOP
A native of New Inn and a lifelong supporter of Tipperary GAA, Val O’Gorman, proprietor of Mr Mister Menswear at Barry’s Corner, Mitchelstown, was delighted to learn recently that the shop had won the order to supply formal and casual outfits to the county senior hurlers and also the minor footballers in advance of their respective All-Ireland final appearances.
Explaining the process, Val O’Gorman told The Avondhu, “The contract went out to tender and it was a hard won order as we were up against a number of bigger outlets. It’s great to get the business at a very tough time for the retail trade and there is, of course, a certain amount of prestige involved in winning the contract to supply county teams contesting an All-Ireland final. The fact that it’s my own county is just the icing on the cake.”
HARD WORK
“There’s quite a lot of work involved. We have had to measure up each player, we’ll carry out a final check following the last training session on this Thursday night and then deliver the outfits to the team hotel in Dublin on Saturday before providing each player with the required apparel at their own rooms that night.”
The contract incorporates the supply of suits, shirts and ties for formal wear at the team banquet on Sunday night and also sweaters, shirts and jeans as casual attire for the homecoming in Thurles on Monday evening.
MORE GOOD NEWS
“We only heard over the past few days that Mr Mister had also won the contract for dressing the minor football team in advance of their All-Ireland final against Dublin on September 18th. That was another great bit of news,” Val O’Gorman added.
Admitting that the trading environment was difficult, Val said that Mr Mister is ‘chasing everything’ at the moment.
“We are getting our fair share but you have to keep on top of things,” he added.
Open in Mitchelstown since December 1999, Mr Mister also supplies outfits to local schools and other facilities including companies like Bernard Kavanagh & Sons Coach Hire, Urlingford and Barry’s Coaches in Cork.
As for the result on Sunday, Val O’Gorman, who will be in Croke Park shouting for Tipp at the top of his voice on Sunday, said, “It’s going to be a really tough battle and I’m just hoping that the Premier will shade it.”
