TRULY IRISH PORK BRAND LAUNCHED IN MITCHELSTOWN
A new range of 100% Irish pork was launched this week in Mitchelstown. The move comes as a group of Irish pig farmers have combined to launch the North South Pig Company with the aim to produce 100% fully traceable rashers and sausages.
Local pork producer, Mairead O’Brien, is a founding member of the North South Pig Company. She told The Avondhu, “In recent months pork products have really been in the limelight and not for good reasons. We wanted to ensure that the Irish consumer is able to get fully traceable locally produced pork and this is what we set up our company to do. Our brand name is ‘Truly Irish’ and we have producers in every county in Ireland.”
The ‘Truly Irish’ brand of sausages and rashers went on sale this week in Centra and SuperValu supermarkets in Mitchelstown.
“It’s about time we had a ‘Truly Irish’ product on the shop shelves, it is also vital that we all support Irish produced foods, not only because of the quality and value, but also of the fact that the wider communities depend on these locally produced products for their own survival.”
“‘Truly Irish’ has given a new lifeline to 140 farmers involved in producing the range of products. We are determined to reclaim the real Irish foods brand that has been taken and used for food from other counties. ‘Truly Irish’ is not just a name, it’s our guarantee,” Mairead O’Brien concluded.
