Put the fun into fungi!
Be part of the International Mushroom Festival 2012 to be held in the enchanting Killegar Estate from October 13th to October 14th, 2012. Explore the beautiful grounds through ancient woodlands to discover the wonderful world of mushrooms. Watch out for rare specimens!
Enjoy guided forays through Killegar's native woodlands with Ireland's top mushroom experts, a cookery demonstration by the TV celebrity chefs Neven Maguire and Brian McDermott, mushroom seminars, heritage displays, wildlife walks, a cookery competition, a craft and food fare and lots more for all the family.
The festival brings together professional mushroom growers and mushroom fans to exchange scientific knowledge and information handed down through generations of forged food lovers.
Top experts from the Irish Mycologist's Society and the Northern Ireland Fungus Group will teach the visitors everything they need to know about mushrooms.
After having forged for wild foods and rare mushroom specimen themselves, the visitors can have their finds identified and taste the edibles.
For the offspring of mushroom enthusiasts and natural heritage lovers, Fungi4Fun will put on treasure hunts, storytelling and educational games inside a 'giant mushroom'.
The craft and food fare will comprise local manufacturers presenting traditional straw weaving, woodwork, quilting, jewellery and archery.
All proceeds go to the 'Save Killegar Campaign', set up to preserve the natural and built heritage of Killegar, one of the last 'big houses' in the country still owned and lived in by the descendants of the man who built it 200 years ago.
