The University of Pikeville Singers from Pikeville, Kentucky will present "Music from the Mountains", a collection of Old American Hymns, Spirituals, and Songs, on Monday, May 28 at St. Ann’s Church of Ireland located on Dawson Street, at the junction of Molesworth Street, in Dublin. The concert will feature works composed and arranged by Aaron Copland, Rosephayne Powell, Moses Hogan, Stephen Foster, and Kentuckian folk artist, John Jacob Niles. Titles will include “I Wanna Be Ready”, “The Sweetest Gift”, “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”, “Why No One to Love?” and the Kentucky folk hymn “Bright Morning Stars”.
The University of Pikeville Singers specializes in solo, duet, quartet, and ensemble singing and is one of two university choral ensembles. The University of Pikeville was founded 1889 by Presbyterian missionaries that wanted to provide educational opportunities for the youth of the mountains and currently serves as the leading institution of higher education in Central Appalachia.
